Dia 3 - Sonho ou Pesadelo?

Key features of Stage 3:
Depart from Ax les Thermes early on Wednesday 3rd September
Arrive in Bagnères-de-Luchon in the beginning of the afternoon
160km, including 115km that will be timed
2700 meters of elevation gain / 2800m of descent
4 refreshment points along the route

Ascents of the day:
Col de Port, 1250m altitude, 450m of altitude gain over 8km
Ascent of Portet d’Aspet, 1070m altitude, 397m of altitude gain over 6km
Ascent to Menté, 1349m altitude, 449m of altitude gain over 6km

Leave Ax les Thermes before the timing starts at the foot of Col de Port, head through the Ariège valley and Couserans which are regular with 10k stretches at less than 6% average.

The 18km to Portet d’Aspet is a gentle 3% average gradient which becomes gradually steeper and rises to 10% in the last 2km after the village of Saint-Lary. Take great care on the descent which is very fast with sharp bends.

A fast ride through the Ger de Boutx valley takes you to the base of Col de Menté where the climb is set amongst fir trees on a 7km regular slope with 8% average. Again take care on the fast descent with its deceptively tight turns.

Coast along to Saint-Béat and onwards for 15km on the flat to Bagnères-de-Luchon where you can recover in anticipation of tomorrow’s challenging stage.

Hoje foi o dia mais longo. Mas achei menos difícil que ontem. As montanhas eram menos íngremes e menos agressivas (não era uma subida contínua). Nem acreditei nas força de minhas pernas. Parece que ficaram mais fortes. Não sei se psicológico ou hormonal, mas achei que ficaram.

Eu me senti muito feliz pedalando hoje. Visual inacreditável. Apesar de ter acordado as 5h e pedalado mais de 160km com quase 3000m de altimetria, não me senti tão cansado como esses números podem dizer.

Novamente consegui andar em pelotão revezando nas partes mais planas.

Consegui manter meu batimento bem controlado...tipo devagar e sempre. Mas consegui cumprir meu objetivo com folga, cerca de 1.30h dentro do tempo.

Tive problemas com a Internet hoje de novo. Só estou conseguindo finalizar agora que já está na hora de dormir...serei mais breve...

Enfim tive hoje um dia maravilhoso. Um dia de sonho...

Amanhã será o dia mais duro de montanha...quase 4000m de altimetria finalizando com o Col du Tourmalet...
